So obviously I messed up.

Bad.

And the thing was, I couldn’t even blame my inability to stay away from Jaclyn Love – due to her volunteering at the clinic – on my inability to stay out of her. Nah, I walked into that with my eyes wide open. I saw everything.

Which, of course, presented a new problem.

How to keep myself from going back for more?

It was one thing when all I had against me was my imagination – the fantasy of what she looked like underneath her clothes. But now that I was intimately familiar with that soft skin, those ample curves, plush thighs, pillowy breasts, tight pu…

So bad I was sitting in my place on my night off, beer in hand, wings on the coffee table, NBA on the tv, but I wasn’t paying attention to any of that shit.

My mind was on Jaclyn.

I’d invited her over.

Obviously, she’d said no because she wasn’t here, but it had taken a lot for me to push through and even ask, mainly because my ass knew better. I didn’t need her over here, didn’t need her scent permeating my space, didn’t need to get drawn further into her. But even with all that in mind, the rejection still stung like a bitch.

“Ms. Love… I’m sure you already know this, but thorough research involves conducting your tests more than once. Varied times, varied conditions, varied settings, all that, you know?” I was nervous enough that my palms were sweating, which was… what the fuck?

Jaclyn turned from her post at the desk with that dazzling smile, clear amusement in her eyes. “As much as I appreciate a good ongoing scenario, I unfortunately have to decline. I am insanely busy, and I kinda want to graduate in a few weeks like I’m supposed to, so I kinda have to be on sabbatical. If you catch my drift?”

Immediately, I nodded. “Absolutely. Totally get it.”

“Sorry,” she said, like she meant it. “You’re a gold medalist though, I’m sure you can find another research partner. Easily.”

She was right.

I could.

But I didn’t want a different “research partner.”

One night of pussy, a week ago, and she had me in my feelings.

The ringing of my cell phone snatched me from my pity party as I reached to grab it from the table. The name on the screen brought an instant smile to my face.

“Aunt Cali,” I greeted, picking up the remote to crank the volume on the TV down. “What can I do for my favorite Auntie today?”

On the other end of the line, she snickered. “Boy, I’m your only Auntie.”

“That doesn’t mean you’re not my favorite.”

“How could I not be?”

“If I didn’t even like you.”

That made her laugh again. “I’m a lovable person Kadan, everyone likes me.”

“I can think of a large group of people who’d disagree,” I countered back.

“And that’s why they’re where they are and I’m where I am,” she said, with the signature sass that always amused the hell out of me. “Now stop getting me riled up so I can tell you this.
